With his future uncertain, the Ghanaian would welcome the opportunity to join the FC Barcelona project
The FC Barcelona boasts one of the most privileged and talented midfield areas in world football. And it's no surprise. Reviewing the culé roster, names like Pedri González, Dani Olmo, Frenkie de Jong, Marc Casadó, Gavi, Fermín López, Pablo Torre, and Marc Bernal stand out. A base that is simply enviable, difficult to match even for the biggest powers in European football.
However, there is a reality that the club cannot ignore: the profile of a defensive, physical, and recovering midfielder is scarce in the squad. For this reason, it is not surprising that the name of Thomas Partey, the 31-year-old Ghanaian pivot, has begun to resonate strongly in the blaugrana orbit.
Thomas Partey: A market opportunity for Barça?
Partey, currently at Arsenal, will be out of contract on June 30, and according to recent reports from Mundo Deportivo, the midfielder would be interested in returning to LaLiga EA Sports. After his time at Atlético de Madrid, he would not mind defending the colors of FC Barcelona, an option he would prioritize upon his return to Spain.
Beyond his physical and containment profile, Thomas Partey offers interesting versatility: he can also perform as a right-back, something he has demonstrated several times with the 'Gunners'. This versatility could be an added value for his candidacy as a potential signing for the Catalan team for the upcoming season.
But, is Barça really interested in pursuing him? The interest depends on several factors, mainly whether the club can resolve its situation with financial 'fair play' and the possibility of registering new signings in the summer market.
Does the Ghanaian midfielder fit into Barcelona's plans?
It should not be overlooked that Barcelona has other priorities on its agenda. Among them, the signing of a top-level left winger, a proven replacement for the right-back, and the renewal and registration of several key contracts within the culé roster.
Therefore, although Thomas Partey could represent an attractive market opportunity—even a true 'bargain' considering his contractual situation—his arrival at Barça does not seem imminent. Still, in such an unpredictable market as the current one, no scenario can be ruled out.
