Barça have received a proposal to sign Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne as free agents. Would these acquisitions be viable for the Barça club?

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The 2025 summer transfer market promises to be full of surprises. Why? Just take a look at all the renowned players who, if nothing changes in their current contractual ties with their teams, will have to try their luck in free agency. Some of them are extremely attractive, as they seem to be stars who still have a lot to offer in the elite of European football.

Under this premise, two names stand out, players of great prestige in the Premier League and internationally: Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne, stars of Liverpool and Manchester City, respectively. Everything indicates that they will not renew with their clubs and will explore new footballing horizons.

Surprisingly, there is the option for both players to share a team next season. Where? At FC Barcelona. As suggested by 'El Nacional.cat', both 'cracks' have been offered to Barça to reinforce the sporting project of Hansi Flick. They emerge as attractive market opportunities, as they would not require exorbitant payments for their transfers and they continue to maintain an excellent level on the field.

Are the signings of Salah and De Bruyne realistic options for Barcelona?

However, this option seems more utopian than real, making it very difficult for either of them to end up at FC Barcelona. Despite not having to pay large sums for their transfers, as would be expected for players of their caliber, a problem arises: the high salary demands that Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne could pose, in addition to the commissions that could be involved in these types of transactions.

According to 'Capology' metrics, both players are among the top three highest-paid footballers in the Premier League in terms of base salary. De Bruyne tops the list with approximately €24.8 million (20.8 million pounds) gross, while Salah takes the third spot with a total of €21.7 million (18.2 million pounds). These amounts, justified by their performance, could be challenging for Barcelona to match in a future destination.

It is also important to consider that both Salah and De Bruyne are drawing interest from clubs with the financial capacity to meet their demands. For example, there has been much speculation about Paris Saint-Germain's interest in the Egyptian forward, who could fill the void left by Kylian Mbappé. As for the Belgian, interest has also been mentioned from clubs in Saudi Arabia and the Major League Soccer in the United States, indicating that they may have other financially attractive options available.
