Ansu Fati reappeared this week with Barça, but his days in Catalonia seem numbered. Will the club be able to part with the winger in the summer?

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona has a clear position regarding the future of Ansu Fati for the summer market of 2025: the club prioritizes his departure, either through a definitive sale or a loan, due to his lack of fit in Hansi Flick's plans and the 'Blaugrana' financial needs.

In recent months, Barça has made it clear to the player from Bissau that they are not counting on him as part of their long-term sports project. Flick has been forceful in pointing out that the player must earn a place with his performance in training, but his participation has been minimal (191 minutes in 9 games this season, without goals or assists).

In that sense, the club plans to sell him to free up salary mass and generate income, given that Ansu is one of the best-paid players, with a gross salary of around 14 million euros per year until 2027. His departure is seen as key to financing signings such as Nico Williams or another forward in the next transfer window.

Barça seeks to negotiate Ansu Fati's definitive departure

If a sale is not achieved, a loan is the other alternative, with the hope that Fati will recover his value at another club. Barça would even be willing to assume part of his salary in a loan to facilitate the operation, a path that it already exhausted in 2023 when it negotiated his simple loan to Brighton.

Initially, Barça considered extending his contract until 2030 to reduce his annual salary impact, but this idea has lost strength. The '10' is not willing to accept a significant reduction, so the board prioritizes an immediate transfer.

And it is that the need to comply with LaLiga's financial 'Fair Play' drives the decision to part with Fati. His market value has fallen to 5 million euros (it was worth 80 'kilos' in 2020), which complicates a lucrative sale, even more so when the club hopes to obtain at least 20-30 million to reinvest.

Thus, the decision on his future will be made at the end of the 2024-25 season. Barça and Ansu's environment are aligned in seeking a solution that benefits both parties, according to sources close to the club.

Which teams are interested in Ansu Fati?

Several clubs have shown interest in the 22-year-old Spanish forward, although his history of injuries and lack of continuity have reduced the number of suitors. The teams that keep the possibility of signing him open this summer are:

  • Juventus: the 'bianconeri' see Fati as a market opportunity to revitalize their attack. They believe that a change of scenery could recover his best version and his experience in large scenarios is a point in favor. However, they prefer a loan with an option to buy rather than a direct transfer.
  • Sevilla: has been the most insistent club, with renewed interest since the summer of 2024. Their coach, García Pimienta, knows Fati from La Masia and believes that a family environment in Andalusia could help him relaunch his career. A loan is the most likely option, especially because the winger grew up in the region.

  • Real Betis: has emerged as a recent contender, attracted by the possibility of incorporating Ansu without a high transfer cost. Barça would be willing to cover part of his salary to facilitate a loan, according to local reports.

  • Valencia. has also asked about Fati, seeing in him a bet to reinforce their attack. However, their economic capacity limits the options to a loan, and the operation would depend on the departure of other players.

  • Girona: is another potential destination for the player from Bissau, given his offensive style of play and his relationship with the City Group, but there are no concrete advances. It would be a secondary option compared to Sevilla or Betis.

  • West Ham and Tottenham: Both clubs have explored the possibility of a loan, according to English sources. West Ham, under the leadership of Graham Potter, needs reinforcements in attack after injuries to key players, while Tottenham seeks solutions for their irregular season. However, Fati is not convinced to return to the Premier after his discreet spell at Brighton in 2023-24 (4 goals in 30 games).

  • Fenerbahçe and Besiktas (Turkey): Turkish teams have shown interest, but Ansu does not look favorably on this option, prioritizing more competitive leagues. These clubs could offer an attractive salary, although they do not meet his sporting ambitions.

  • Saudi clubs: there is also interest from Saudi Arabia, with clubs willing to pay a transfer and a high salary. However, the forward and his environment have rejected these proposals, as the player wants to stay in Europe to recover his level and return to the Spanish national team.

  • Benfica: asked about Fati in the winter market, attracted by the possibility of offering him minutes in the Champions League. Although the option did not prosper, it could be reactivated in the summer if other doors close.
