Alejandro Grimaldo still dreams of returning to Barça. Will the Blaugrana board go for the full-back this summer?

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Alejandro Grimaldo has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the German league this season. The Valencia native has scored 4 goals and provided 11 assists in 39 matches (3,140 minutes) with Bayer Leverkusen and has attracted the interest of several giants in Europe, including FC Barcelona. In this regard, the 29-year-old defender prioritizes waiting for a Blaugrana offer, knowing the club's interest in bringing in another player for that position.

The player trained at La Masia left the club in 2016 to join Benfica, a club that paid 2.1 million euros for his transfer and ultimately let him go for free to Leverkusen, where he has reached a high level under the management of Xabi Alonso. Despite having a contract with the Bayer side until 2027, Grimaldo is willing to return to Spain and, specifically, to Barça if the right conditions arise.

Grimaldo wants to return to Barça, but the club is uncertain about his signing

In this sense, Barça has received the offer from the Spanish international and considers him a viable option to strengthen their left-back position, as an alternative to Alejandro Balde. The uncertainty surrounding Xabi Alonso's future at Leverkusen could influence the defender's decision, as the departure of the San Sebastian coach could hasten Alejandro's exit, even though his contract runs until 2027.

However, Grimaldo's transfer seems complicated due to his current contract and his market value, which is estimated at around 40 million euros. Barça would need to find a suitable financial formula to finalize the signing, as although the player has expressed on several occasions his desire to wear the Blaugrana jersey again, concrete negotiations have not yet advanced significantly, since the club has other market priorities to address.

The idea of Deco and Joan Laporta is, first of all, to resolve all pending renewals in the squad and to offload those players who are either not part of Hansi Flick's plans or whose contracts expire in 2026 without options for renewal. Additionally, Barcelona wants to bring in another left winger as the first reinforcement for the 2025-26 season. After that, another full-back could arrive.
