The future of Marcus Rashford remains 'up in the air' just three days before the winter transfer market closes. The '10' is waiting for a last-minute offer from FC Barcelona, as he is believed to be finished at Manchester United
Marcus Rashford is hoping for a 'miracle' that could take him to FC Barcelona in the winter transfer market. The winger rejected an offer from Como, managed by Cesc Fàbregas, in the last hours, trusting to receive a last-minute offer from the Catalan club. For the Catalans, however, the market priorities are to resolve pending renewals, with Pedri González and Iñigo Martínez being the next to sign their new contracts, along with Gavi.
Meanwhile, in England, they consider Rashford's cycle as a Manchester United player to be over. The winger's words after being left out of the last derby against Manchester City, saying he was "ready for a new challenge", were a declaration of war against coach Rúben Amorim that has ultimately sealed the forward's future at Old Trafford.
Rúben Amorim 'sentences' Rashford, and the United environment supports him
After the 'red devils' victory over Fulham (0-1), the Portuguese coach left a 'dart' at the winger that confirms his stance. Marcus will not play with the team in the 2024-25 season if he ultimately does not find a team in the winter market. "From the bench, we can feel that we lack a bit of rhythm, but I would prioritize Vital over a player who doesn't give his all every day", he said referring to the case of the '10', comparing him to the club's goalkeeping coach, Jorge Vital, who is currently 63 years old.
Similarly, two Manchester legends, Rio Ferdinand and Teddy Sheringham, supported Amorim's stance regarding Rashford. On one hand, the former center-back stated that if he were in the place of the 27-year-old forward, he would feel embarrassed. "For someone to question your commitment, to question whether you give 100% for the team, leaves you marked," Rio commented to 'The Guardian'. Meanwhile, Sheringham did not hesitate to assert that if Sir Alex Ferguson were still managing the team, "he would have already kicked him out."
Marcus has not played a Premier League match since December 7 (he came on in the 71st minute in the loss against Nottingham Forest). He was then a starter against Viktoria Plzen (1-2) on December 12, a match where he played 56 minutes. Three days later, he was left out of the derby against City, an episode that seems to have sealed his future as a United player, although he still has a contract until June 2028.
