Wojciech Szczesny landed in Barcelona on Monday and has already passed the medical with the club. His signing is expected to be announced in the next few days

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Wojciech Szczesny is already in Barcelona to finalise his signing for the Catalan club. The 34-year-old goalkeeper landed in Barcelona at 10:30 on Monday morning at the private flights terminal at El Prat airport, coming from Malaga. The Catalan club did everything possible to keep his arrival as private as possible and, once he left the terminal, he got into a van with tinted windows so that he could not be seen.

The footballer went directly to the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper in Sant Joan Despí to undergo the first part of the relevant medical examination. Afterwards, he headed to the Hospital de Barcelona to complete the medical tests and left the premises shortly before 13:00.

After the physical examinations, Szczesny will be ready to sign his new contract in the next few hours, which will link him to Barça, in principle, until June 30th with a salary of around three million euros gross, according to various reports. However, the official announcement of his signing is not expected until September 30th.

According to 'SPORT', Wojciech will also meet with the first team coach, Hansi Flick, and his technical staff, as well as meet his new teammates, with Robert Lewandowski at the head. Both players were together for more than a decade in the Polish national team and maintain a close relationship.

Barça's plan with Szczesny

Barça's idea is that, once the last bureaucratic details have been finalised, the goalkeeper will begin a personal 'mini pre-season' in the next few weeks to get ready after having been away from the pitch for more than two months. In Szczesny's and the club's favour is the international break, which will give him a couple of weeks to recover his competitive form ahead of the match against Sevilla on 20 October.

Likewise, the Pole is expected to watch the Champions League match between FC Barcelona and Young Boys in Montjuïc. A competition very familiar to Szczesny, as he played 68 European matches between Arsenal (23), Roma (8) and Juventus (37) since his debut on 16 February 2011, coincidentally against the Catalans in a 2-1 victory for the 'gunners'.
