Xavi Hernández could be landing in Italian football as coach of one of the "greats" of Serie A. The hesitant start in the local league of this team could lead to the dismissal of the coach if they continue in that line

Calendar of FC Barcelona

If there is a topic that has generated some excitement in the world of football, it is the question of what will be the new professional destination of Xavi Hernández. It is worth remembering that, after finishing his adventure at FC Barcelona at the end of the last season 2023/24, where he spent three seasons and took part in a total of 143 matches (winning 91, drawing 23, and losing 29), he is currently without a team. Although he seems to be thoroughly enjoying his life outside of football and does not appear to be seeking a short-term return, it is clear that a comeback to coaching is not ruled out.

Now, the enigma lies in which team will become the third coaching position of his career. Initially, the Ajax option was mentioned, but this possibility did not materialize, and the Dutch club ended up hiring Francesco Farioli as the new coach. There was also speculation about a possible return to Middle Eastern football with Al-Ittihad, where Benzema, Kanté, Fabinho, among others, play, but apparently, this alternative was dismissed by the Terrassa native.

The 'big' Serie A club that could bring Xavi Hernández on board as coach this season

However, it seems that a new and interesting job opportunity is opening up for Xavi. As suggested on the website 'Gol Digital', AC Milan, a team that has had a shaky start to the 2024/25 season under the guidance of coach Paulo Fonseca, with two draws and a loss in three Serie A matches, is reportedly considering the Terrassa native as a good candidate to replace the Portuguese at the helm of the 'rossoneri'.

Nevertheless, the aforementioned source also adds that the Terrassa native is not the only name on the list of potential replacements for Fonseca. Another strong contender is Maurizio Sarri, who has had successful experiences with top-tier teams in Italy such as Napoli, Juventus, and Lazio, and is currently without a job. His impressive track record makes him a more than valid option in case AC Milan decides to change the coach, a decision that, for now, does not seem entirely clear.
